Dorset residents and visitors to the region are being invited to have their say on a proposed new plan for the Bridport Community Hall precinct.
The Dorset Council has released a concept plan for the precinct, which involves replacing the existing hall and car park with an attractive development, including commercial tenancy, residential accommodation and a restaurant/café.
As part of the plan, it is proposed that the site would be sold to a private developer and the proceeds of the sale reinvested into community facilities in Bridport.
The Dorset Mayor, Barry Jarvis, said the project would bring many benefits to the community.
“This concept would see a better utilisation of a prime site in Bridport, enhance livability and also attract much needed flow on investment in Bridport and the Dorset community,” Mayor Jarvis said.
“This is just a concept at this stage and we are pleased to be able to show the community what the site could look like in the future and get their feedback on this vision and also where to reinvest the proceeds into community facilities in Bridport.”
Mayor Jarvis said the concept was no bigger than the current footprint of the hall and car park.
“In fact, the heights of the new buildings in the concept plan are lower than the existing hall and the proposed colour scheme and materials used would ensure it blends in with the surrounding environment.”
Two ‘walk in’ sessions are being held on the Village Green on Thursday January 15th and Thursday January 22nd from 11am-1pm. The Mayor and Councillors will be available to answer questions and discuss the concept.
A facebook page has also been created as a forum for community members and visitors to have their say: www.facebook.com/bridporthallprecinct
The concept plans are on display at the Bridport Hall, Bridport Holiday Park, the Dorset Council chambers and Aqua Property and are also available on the Dorset Council website.
