Senior Planner

An exciting opportunity is currently available for a full-time Senior Planner to oversee Council’s planning services functions.

In this role, you will supervise a small, solutions-driven team responsible for land use planning duties and functions. Your ability to positively influence outcomes by developing trusted and professional relationships with key stakeholders will be highly valued.

Reporting to the Assistant General Manager/Director of Community and Development, you will be part of a high-performing and cohesive development services team who will trust in your ability to make decisions, to create an impact and to contribute to the collective success of the team. You will thrive in an environment where teamwork and mutual support is paramount and you are provided ample opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering service excellence across all facets of planning services with a high-level customer service approach;
  • Supporting other technical staff and team members to resolve complex operational and technical issues;
  • Supervising, developing and motivating a small, solutions-driven team in a change management environment; and
  • Supporting the delivery of Council’s strategic planning program.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have significant experience in supervising similar function areas within either private or public sectors. You will also have the skillset and drive to assist Dorset Council in delivering the initiatives contained in their strategic and annual plans which can be found here.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of tertiary qualification in Town Planning or equivalent, recognised as eligible for membership for the Planning Institute of Australia or similar professional body;
  • A proven track record in a successful supervisory role within the field of statutory planning approvals;
  • Proven ability to coach and develop staff and foster a high-morale and high-performance culture;
  • Strong knowledge of statutory approval processes and strategic planning, with experience managing and/or delivering a diverse range of projects;
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.

  • A base salary ranging from $104,869 - $114,638 p.a based on relevant skills and experience; and
