Rates & Property

Rates are issued in July each year. Below are information brochures that are mailed with the rate demand and outline how your rates are calculated and also what services are provided by rates paid.

The below rates resolution was adopted by Council on 26 June 2023 and a summary advertised in The Examiner Newspaper and North Eastern Advertiser.

Payment Arrangements Available

We understand that sometimes there are circumstances outside of our control that place pressure on finances. To assist ratepayers through the tougher times, Council offer payment arrangements to those who are facing financial hardship. There are many benefits of entering into a payment arrangement with Council, including:

  • Interest charges are remitted whilst the payment arrangement is maintained;
  • Payment arrangements can be scheduled over a full financial year, allowing you more time to pay your rates; and
  • Council are willing to work with you to tailor a payment arrangement to suit your specific circumstances.

If you would like to make an arrangement to pay your rates, please contact our friendly customer service team to discuss. Alternatively, you can see other available payment options here.

For further information regarding rates and charges, please feel free to contact Council Officers on 03 6352 6500 or via email dorset@dorset.tas.gov.au

Ratepayers who hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Repatriation Health Card (Gold Card [TPI] ) with a date of grant on or prior to 1 July 2023 may be eligible for a partial remission of rates.

The remission may only be claimed on one property per annum and the application must relate to the applicant's principal place of residence as at 1 July 2023.

Applications can be made in person or by contacting Council's friendly customer service team on 03 6352 6500 until 31 March 2024. Applicants must have a copy of their eligible card available when applying.

For more information on remissions, visit the Treasury website here.
