Briefing of Decisions | 20 April 2026 Council Meeting

Briefing of Decisions made at the Council Meeting held on 20 April at the Council Chambers

  • Acting as a Planning Authority, approved a planning application for visitor accommodation (4 units) at 45 Main Street, Derby, subject to conditions.
  • Endorsed the preparation of a North East Trail Network (City to the Sea) Master Plan, setting a long term vision for a connected, multi use regional trail linking Dorset with Launceston and Break O’Day. The project will prioritise key trail alignments - largely using existing rail corridors and roads - while establishing staging, costs, funding pathways and strong community and stakeholder input. Council has also elevated the project within its Priority Projects Plan, including key sites and connections such as Scottsdale Railway Station and links from Tulendeena to Branxholm, positioning the North East Rail Trail Stage 3 as a vital enabling project. The General Manager was also authorised to work with regional councils, State agencies and industry partners to drive a coordinated, well funded and State supported trail experience that delivers regional and tourism benefits.
  • Received and noted the 2025/26 Annual Plan – March Quarterly Report, including deferral of activities #12 (New Framework – Conduct of Elected Member), #25 (Asset Management Strategy) and #26 (Council Owned Asset Review).
  • Adopted revised Policy No. 27 – Youth.
  • Received and noted the Management Briefing Report which included community updates on the Pioneer Lake Advocacy Group, West Maurice Road bridge replacement, commencement of the Ferny Hill Road realignment works and opening of the application period for the 2026 Barry Jarvis Education Scholarships.
