Litter is environmentally, economically and aesthetically problematic. Plastic bags can take 20 years to break down and as they do it is into smaller and smaller plastic pieces. Monofilament fishing line takes 600 years, disposable nappies and plastic beverage bottles take 450 years and glass bottles can take 1 million years. Even cigarette butts take up to 5 years to break down.

Do your bit

Don't litter and if you see someone doing the wrong thing report it

  • Report Rubbish- If you find litter or a dump that needs to be cleaned up make a Report
  • Report Litter - If you see someone littering from a motor vehicle or vessel make a Report

Get involved in the Take 3 for the Sea global movement and remove 3 pieces of litter every time you leave the beach, a waterway or a park etc.

Organise or participate in a Community Litter Collection

Community Litter Collections

Council encourages and supports community members who safely collect litter within Dorset. If you are organising a community litter collection make sure you register your event to access free resources and be eligible for free rubbish disposal at the Scottsdale Waste Transfer Station.

We've put together a simple Litter Picker Pack to assist you in organising your Community Litter Collection.
