Litter is environmentally, economically and aesthetically problematic. Plastic bags can take 20 years to break down and as they do it is into smaller and smaller plastic pieces. Monofilament fishing line takes 600 years, disposable nappies and plastic beverage bottles take 450 years and glass bottles can take 1 million years. Even cigarette butts take up to 5 years to break down.
