Bird Flu (H5) Reminder: What To Do If You See Sick or Dead Birds

Public Notices

Tasmanians are being asked to remain vigilant following recent detections of H5 bird flu in wild birds in Tasmania. While there have been no detections in Tasmanian poultry, community reporting remains an important part of monitoring and responding to the disease.

Bird Flu (H5) Reminder: What To Do If You See Sick or Dead Birds

If you see a sick, injured or dead bird, or other wildlife, please follow these three simple steps:

1. AVOID

Do not touch, handle or move sick or dead birds or wildlife.

2. RECORD

Record as much information as possible, including:

  • The type of animal
  • The number of animals affected
  • The exact location
  • Photos or videos, where safe to do so

3. REPORT

Report sightings as soon as possible by:

  • Calling the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888, or
  • Completing the online reporting form via the NRE Tas website.
