Ferny Hill Road - Landslip Repair Works

This project is to undertake landslip repair works on Ferny Hill Road, Golconda.

The September 2024 rain event caused a landslip that resulted in substantial damage to the existing road alignment, requiring a more robust engineering response to ensure the long-term stability and safety of the road. The project will involve relocating the road alignment to more stable ground and reconstructing the roadway to modern standards.

The project is being supported through the Tasmanian Government’s Tasmanian Relief and Recovery Arrangements, which provides funding assistance of up to 75 per cent for the reconstruction of essential public assets damaged by eligible natural disaster events.

Construction is scheduled to commence in early April 2026 and will require the full closure of Ferny Hill Road for approximately eight weeks while the works are undertaken. Dorset Council will provide advance notice of the closure through its print and social media channels, as well as on-site signage, to ensure road users are informed ahead of the works.

Mayor Rhys Beattie said the project represents an important step in restoring and strengthening local road infrastructure following the landslip event. “This project will deliver a long-term solution for the damaged section of Ferny Hill Road and ensure the route remains safe and reliable for the community well into the future,” Mayor Beattie said.

Council appreciates the community’s patience during the construction period and encourages motorists to plan ahead and observe all signage in the area.

The realignment works will improve long-term road safety and network reliability for residents, agricultural operators, and other road users.

Works Update: The works contract has been awarded to AWC Pty Ltd, who will undertake the reconstruction and realignment of the affected section of road to provide a permanent and resilient solution.

Road Closure: Ferny Hill Road will be closed from 7.00am Monday 13 April 2026 until 5.00pm Friday 12 June 2026 to enable the works to occur. The closure will be from the Golconda Road/Ferny Hill Road intersection through to the northern boundary of the works, 4km north of the intersection. Please note: The works are subject to favourable weather conditions.
