Mayor Addresses Recent Vandalism in Public Facilities – Community Support Requested

Announcements

Mayor Rhys Beattie today expressed deep concern over a recent rise in vandalism across several public toilets, reserves, and parks throughout the community.

Mayor Addresses Recent Vandalism in Public Facilities – Community Support Requested

Incidents reported in recent weeks include physical damage to fixtures and buildings, deliberate fires, and extensive defacing of public property. These acts not only create safety risks but also divert valuable community resources away from essential services.

“The vast majority of our residents take great pride in our shared spaces,” the Mayor said. “It’s disappointing to see repeated acts of damage that impact everyone who uses our parks and facilities. We are committed to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming public areas - and we need the community’s help to stop this behaviour.”

The Council is urging residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious or inappropriate behaviour immediately. Council currently report all acts of vandalism to the Police; however, community members can assist by contacting Council on 03 6352 6500 or the Tasmania Police assistance line 131 444 whenever they witness damage or activity that appears concerning.

“Working together is the most effective way to protect our community assets,” the Mayor added. “If you see something that doesn’t look right, please let us know. Your report could prevent further damage and ensure our public spaces remain safe for all.”
