Vale | Former Mayor – Peter Partridge OAM

Announcements

It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing of former Mayor and Councillor, Peter Partridge.

Vale | Former Mayor – Peter Partridge OAM

Mr Partridge served his community as an elected member with a staggering 42 consecutive years on Council, making him the region’s longest serving Councillor. He was first elected to Scottsdale Council in 1972 and finished his service to the community with Dorset Council in 2014. During this period, he was the Scottsdale Warden from 1990-1993, Dorset Mayor from 1993-1999, Deputy Mayor from 2000-2002 and Mayor from 2002-2009.

Mr Partridge was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2003 and life membership of the Local Government Association of Tasmania in 2012, both in recognition of his service to local government and the community.

He was highly respected by his fellow Councillors and Council Staff during his tenure which spanned four General Managers, the amalgamation of Scottsdale and Ringarooma Councils, and led the community through the loss of major industries. Mr Partridge was softly spoken, but firm when needed, always available for chat and was a wealth of local knowledge. He was often seen strolling the streets of Scottsdale, or on occasions, riding his push bike and trailer to the Council Chambers with a load of roadside rubbish he’d collected on the way.

Dorset Council pass on their condolences to Mr Partridge’s wife Lesley, children Lou and Richard, and their families at this difficult time.
