Human Resources Project Lead

Lead practical HR projects that enhance Dorset Council’s people practices, support leaders and help build a modern, connected Council.

Dorset Council is a local government organisation situated in North East Tasmania that is undertaking a journey of organisational improvement while continuing to deliver essential services and infrastructure to the community.

As part of this journey, we are looking for people who can contribute positively, support continuous improvement and work collaboratively with others to deliver practical outcomes.

 

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Project Lead to join Council on a fixed-term contract for up to two years. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and implementation of Council's HR foundations, creating practical systems, processes and resources that support our people and our long-term organisational goals.

Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, managers and employees, you will develop and deliver a staged HR strategy and roadmap, identifying priorities and leading projects from planning through to implementation. You will review and strengthen HR policies, procedures, templates and key people processes, ensuring they are practical, consistent and easy to use.

This is a highly collaborative role where you'll partner with leaders across the organisation to build manager capability, provide practical guidance and coaching, support organisational change, and deliver practical improvements that strengthen Council's people practices.

 

About you:

The successful applicant will have:

- A practical, approachable style, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders

- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage resistance or differing views in a calm and professional manner

- Curiosity and a solutions-focused mindset, with a genuine interest in understanding how the Council operates

- Resilience and sound judgement, with the ability to maintain momentum while keeping broader priorities in mind

- Excellent time management and the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

 

Essential Requirements:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, business or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

- Minimum 5 years experience in a generalist HR role, including experience developing, improving or implementing HR frameworks, tools or processes

- Demonstrated ability to lead practical workplace change, including consultation, communication, stakeholder engagement and implementation planning

- Strong written communication and ability to produce clear, usable documents

- Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver projects while responding to operational realities

- Ability to obtain and maintain required checks relevant to the role

- Current driver’s license

 

Desirable:

- Experience working within a local government or public sector environment

- Experience building HR strategy, workforce plans, leadership development frameworks or engagement processes.

- Experience using project management tools or leading process improvement work.

- Current AHRI membership or eligibility for membership

- Change management, project management, coaching or facilitation qualification

 

What’s on offer:

- A fixed term contract (full-time) position with some flexibility to work from home once established within the role

- Annual Salary of $119,985 p.a. negotiable, plus 12% Superannuation

- Rostered Day Off Structure (work a 9 day fortnight or 19 day month)
