On Thursday, 22 January 2026, Council held their annual awards reception to celebrate those within our community who have made a significant contribution to Dorset at the Scottsdale Mechanics Hall.
A 150+ strong crowd attended the Dorset Awards Ceremony at the Scottsdale Mechanics Hall and listened to why Dorset is great - our fantastic community members and volunteers.
The Ceremony, hosted by Mayor Rhys Beattie, saw Australia Day Ambassador Vicki Purnell address those present and impart on them her background and why she is passionate about health and community support. The Ambassador then assisted the Mayor present the following awards.
Community Event of the Year | Scottsdale High School 2025 Production of ‘Mumma Mia’
Citizen of the Year | Ally Mercer
Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to Nigel and Ally Mercer, Kevin Coates, Vivien Sarich, Leonie Johnston, Lions Club of Scottsdale – SpudFest, Branxholm Hotel Chopping Carnival, Branxholm Events Committee – Old Time Barn Dance, Friends of St Pauls Springfield – 2025 Plant Fest, Rotary Club of Scottsdale – 2025 Rail Trail Run and Ride, and Branxholm Hotel – Big Boys Ride.
Those who attended the ceremony were also treated to musical performances by the Scottsdale Choir and Ella Bayles, with supper provided by the Mechanics Hall Committee.
