Council has engaged @Leisure Planning to lead the assessment, which will focus on enclosure options for the Scottsdale Aquatic Centre’s 25 metre pool. The assessment will examine current and future demand, undertake life cycle costing and operational modelling of various enclosure options, and provide an independent recommendation on the viability of proceeding.
The consultant will consider the economic, community and social implications of both progressing and not progressing with any recommended enclosure option, ensuring Council has a comprehensive evidence base on which to make future decisions.
Acting General Manager Jayne Miller said the assessment represents an important first step in determining whether an indoor aquatic facility could meet the current and future needs of the Dorset community.
"An indoor pool has been a long-standing aspiration for many people across our municipality. Before Council can even consider any future investment, it is essential that we have a clear understanding of the construction and operating costs, funding opportunities and the long-term viability of such a facility," Ms Miller said.
"This feasibility study will provide the evidence needed to make informed decisions and ensure any future actions are financially responsible and aligned with community priorities."
The assessment is expected to be completed by mid-2027 with findings and recommendations to be presented to Council for consideration.
