Council Confirms Acting General Manager Appointment

Announcements

Dorset Council has confirmed the appointment of Ms Jayne Miller as Acting General Manager for a further six months, through to 31 March 2027.

Council Confirms Acting General Manager Appointment

Council resolved to continue the current acting arrangement to provide stability and continuity for the organisation as the newly elected Council is established and preparations begin for the recruitment of a permanent General Manager.

Mayor Rhys Beattie said Councillors carefully considered a range of options before determining that extending Ms Miller's appointment was the most appropriate course of action.

"Jayne has provided strong leadership and stability during a significant period of transition for Dorset Council," Mayor Beattie said.

"With her local government experience and knowledge of the organisation, Council believes continuing the current arrangement will provide the greatest continuity for our staff, Councillors and community while the new Council is elected, inducted and settles into its role."

Mayor Beattie said the recruitment of a permanent General Manager would commence after the 2026 local government elections and be led by the incoming Council through a formal recruitment process.

"The appointment of a permanent General Manager is one of the most important decisions a Council makes. It is appropriate that this process is undertaken by the incoming Council to ensure the best possible candidate is secured to lead Dorset into the future," he said.

Council services, projects and day-to-day operations will continue as normal under the leadership of Ms Miller and the Executive Leadership Team.

Mayor Beattie also acknowledged the contribution of Dorset Council's leadership team throughout the transition period.

"I would like to thank Jayne, Kerry and Lauren for their ongoing leadership, teamwork and commitment during this time. Their professionalism has ensured the organisation has remained focused on delivering services and outcomes for our community."

While acknowledging the challenges that come with organisational change, Mayor Beattie said Dorset Council was well positioned for the future.

"While this has been a period of significant change, it is also an exciting time for Dorset Council. We have important work ahead of us as we continue to strengthen the organisation and position Council for long-term success."

"On behalf of Councillors, I would like to sincerely thank our staff for their professionalism, resilience and dedication. Their ongoing commitment during this period is greatly appreciated."
