Briefing of Decisions made at the Council Meeting held on 21 July at the Council Chambers

  • Acknowledged the service to the community of former Councillor James Cashion after his recent resignation.
  • Discussed a request for leave of absence from Councillor Jan Hughes in the closed session portion of the Ordinary Meeting.
  • Acting as a Planning Authority:
  • approved a planning application for the construction of a supermarket and shops, associated signage and works with title consolidations, and demolition of buildings at 111 – 117 Main Street, Bridport, subject to conditions.
  • approved a planning application for additions and alterations to a single dwelling at 24 William Street, Bridport, subject to conditions.
  • approved a planning application for the construction of a single dwelling at 5 Elvie Court, Bridport, subject to conditions.
  • Received and noted the Dorset Board of Inquiry Directions Quarterly Progress Report for the period 1 April to 30 June 2025.
  • Resolved to continue to support and advocate for the upgrade of the Tasman Highway from Minstone Road through Corkerys Road to be upgraded to B Double standard, along with lobbying the Federal and State Government for further funding and alternate delivery options, with Council to contact the City of Launceston Council to advocate for partnership for an eastern bypass to divert heavy traffic away from the city, and for the Mayor to write to the Federal Infrastructure Minister to advocate for further funding for the project.
  • Adopted a new Policy No. 67 – Dispute Resolution (Elected Members) and appointed the Executive Assistant as the Dispute Resolution Officer for Council.
  • Adopted reviewed Policy No. 41 – Council Meeting Procedures.
  • Received and noted the 2024/25 Annual Plan – June Final Report.
  • Agreed to reviewing a comprehensive list of tourism attractions within Dorset with assistance from the community and relevant organisation, to identify and prioritise a project(s) of regional significance, reaffirmed commitment to maintaining strategic alignment and ensuring that resources are not diverted to lower-priority or ad hoc initiatives without appropriate review, and agreed to forming a working group to engage and advocate to the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service for prioritisation, investment and development of selected project(s).
