Vandalism in Bridport Public Toilets Hurting Our Community
Dorset Council is urging residents and visitors to help combat an increasing wave of vandalism and malicious damage targeting public toilets in Bridport.
DORSET COUNCIL WINS 2025 LAND MANAGERS AWARD FOR BLUE DERBY MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS
Dorset Council are excited to be announced as the winner of the Excellence in Destination Management (promotion and maintenance) category at the 2025 Land Managers Awards night held as part of the Sea Otter Australia Summit, held in Batemans Bay on Thursday night.
Next Monday, 20 October the monthly Council Meeting will be held at the Derby Town Hall, commencing at 6:00pm. Prior to the Meeting, a community meet and greet session will be held, commencing at 5:00pm. Community members are welcome to drop in and meet Councillors and Council’s Executive Management Team - light refreshments will be provided.

Council Awards Tender – Bituminous Sealing of Roads 2025/26 Capital Works Program
Dorset Council has awarded the contract for the bituminous sealing of roads under the 2025/26 capital works program to northern Tasmanian company, Crossroads Civil Contracting Pty Ltd. The decision follows a tender process conducted in accordance with Council’s Policy - Code for Tenders and Contracts.
The Tasmanian Electoral Commission has advised that as only one candidate has nominated for the single vacancy in this by-election, no ballot is required. Council congratulate Anthony Richards, and look forward to welcoming him as a Councillor after the certificate of election is issued on 22 September 2025.

Successful Grant Funding | Frenchs Creek Bridge Replacement
Council have been successful in obtaining an Australian Government grant through Tranche 2 of the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program to replace the existing Frenchs Creek Bridge on Haas Road, Legerwood.

2025 Barry Jarvis Education Scholarships Announced
On Monday, 21 July 2025, Mayor Beattie announced the recipients of the 2025 Barry Jarvis Education Scholarships at a ceremony held at the Council Chambers.
Media Release | $120 Million Sideling Upgrade a Multi-Generational Missed Opportunity Without B-Double Standard
Dorset Mayor Rhys Beattie has said the Council’s original Tasman Highway ‘Sideling’ business case, which secured the funding, was predicated on upgrading the road to a B-Double rated highway and shortening the journey via a new realignment through Corkerys Road. Mayor Beattie described the current plan by the Department of State Growth as a multi-generational missed opportunity and called on the State Government to reconsider its position.
Derby and Branxholm Shower Facilities | New Card Readers
Council is in the process of installing card readers in the Derby and Branxholm Shower facilities. These upgrades will assist with limiting vandalism of the facilities, along with increasing usability.
Council held a Closed Session Council Meeting on Monday, 19 May 2025, where Councillors discussed the reappointment of current General Manager, Mr John Marik, whose current employment contract was due for review in December 2025. Following that Meeting, Council can confirm that Mr Marik has been reappointed to the position for a 5-year term.
