Notice of Special Meeting of Council | 19 September 2024
A Special Meeting of Dorset Council will be held at the Council Chambers, 3 Ellenor Street, Scottsdale on Thursday, 19 September 2024 commencing at 2:00 pm.
As part of the recovery response to the extreme weather event that occurred between 30 August and 2 September 2024, the Tasmanian Government has announced that gate fees usually charged to the public for the types waste resulting from that extreme weather event will be waived until 30 November 2024.
On Friday, 16 August 2024, the Minister for Local Government informed Dorset Council that, after considering the Council's submission, he has directed the Board of Inquiry to reconsider its report.

Scottsdale Aquatic Centre | Slide Replacement Works
The community may have noticed maintenance is being carried out at the Aquatic Centre, namely the replacement of the waterslides. The fibreglass sections of the existing waterslides were found to become compromised over time due to an error in manufacturing.
Dorset Council is working with nbn, Telstra, Northern Tasmania Development Corporation, and community and business stakeholders throughout Dorset to develop a Community Digital Plan.
The Commissioner, at a Closed Session Special Meeting of Council on 25 July 2024, considered the Board of Inquiry Report provided to Council by the Minister for Local Government on 4 July 2024.
COMMUNITY UPDATE: Waste Transfer Stations Operating Hours Review
Council Officers recently undertook a review of operating hours of Council's Waste Transfer Stations, located at Scottsdale, Branxholm and Gladstone. This review took into consideration a number of factors including consistency of operating hours, work health and safety requirements, demand for service and community feedback.
Dorset Council has recently engaged with several interested community members who, after initial consultation made contact with Council with concerns regarding the proposed maintenance of the Avenue. Council is committed to careful and considered management of the trees and how to preserve the avenue’s significance for future generations.

Dorset Council was recently announced as one of just 7 councils across Australia to receive funding as part of Tranche 7 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.

It is with sadness that we learn of the passing of former Councillor Russell Brown.
Russell served as a Dorset Councillor from October 2011 until October 2014. Russell was a fierce advocate for his beloved Legerwood and surrounding area, was passionate about his community, provided considered feedback during debate and is remembered as a great story teller.
The Commissioner, Management and Staff pass on their condolences to Russell’s family and friends at this difficult time.
Council and Tasmania State Emergency Service sign three year Memorandum of Understanding
A new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Tasmania State Emergency Service (SES) and Dorset Council, with National Volunteer Week beginning yesterday.
