Every 5 years, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) counts every person and
household in Australia through the Census. Information from the Census helps
governments, businesses and community groups plan for schools, health care, transport
and infrastructure.
The next Census is on Tuesday 11 August 2026. Everyone in Australia must be counted.
We are hiring more than 30,000 people for the 2026 Census. We can’t do the Census
without our temporary field workforce. They help collect the data that helps us all
understand more about Australia and how it’s changing.
